Our first picture with our new companion Elder Battezzato from Sicily,
Italy!! I love him soooo much already and I can already tell you that
this transfer will be more than a blast! Here's to another transfer!
Hello everyone! This week has been a crazy one full of some fun
surprises. For starters, we got transfer calls on friday! Elder Barnes
and I will be staying together for a 3rd transfer haha. We were SO
happy when President told us that! Haha I was the last person that
Elder Barnes said goodbye to when we were back home, and now I will be
his last companion! We were even more excited to hear that we will be
receiving a 3rd companion to drive for us (I lose my driving legality
this transfer because it will make more than 1 year in Europe) and his
name is Elder Battezzato! He is from Sicily, the island off of Italy!
It will be super fun to spend a 3rd transfer with Elder Barnes and to
receive another companion! Anyways, here is the quick update! (Also
huge thanks to Elder Barnes for letting me use most of his email for
this one :):) )
Monday: We went to the United Nations and took a tour with Soeur
Holsinger (UN Senior Couple) and the English Elders. We were surprised
with how interesting everything was. They showed us some cool rooms
where a lot of the debate type stuff happens and where they vote on
international law. It was a fun tour and we took some fun pictures
with all the nations flags in front of the UN. After the tour we went
and cleaned the apartment and did emails and then that night I started
an exchange with Elder Teriihaunui from Tahiti!! He is in his 5th
transfer. Haha he is seriously such a stud and it was so good to be
with him. We went and taught a first lesson to someone named Charles
and it went really well! He is going on vacation for a few weeks but
he promised to read start reading the Book of Mormon!
Tuesday: Elder Teriihaunui and I had studies and then we went and
taught Atoussa and Mandy the plan of salvation! Haha it's crazy how
much they know and honestly they could've taught it to us. Then we
took a bus line and contacted right by Lake Geneva for a little bit :)
After Elder Barnes and I switched back we drove down to Chambery to
blitz their sector for the rest of the night. We got their around 6ish
and I went with Elder Amerjan from California! It was his very last
exchange of his mission so we had a good time :) we started off by
teaching one of their Amis who wants to get baptized. We showed him
the restoration video and talked about baptism! It went really well
and he is getting baptized soon! Then we went and contacted in Ville
and it was great :) we met some cool people and hopefully people they
can start teaching! Elder Amerjan is such a great guy and it was so
fun to go on his last exchange.
Wednesday: Wednesday we woke up in Chambery and drove home to Geneva
and had district meeting. We talked about how we can learn to
recognize the Spirit more and the defenition of a successful
missionary. It was a good meeting and Elder Mauss (the Geneva DL) did
a wonderful job. Later that day we went and taught a man named
Bertrand and his wife Alexia! We met them at the institute and they
brought one of their kids with them. We taught them about temples and
how that was our end goal for them. The spirit was really cool during
the rdv and it was cool to be able to show them pictures of James and
Heidi's marriage at the temple. They liked it a lot and asked some
really good questions. Then we went and visited Ali in the hospital.
He is continuing to improve with his health. After he quit drinking
alcohol a few weeks ago he had some pretty serious reactions and his
liver is still not doing too well. Hopefully he should be out of the
hospital this week. Then that night we went and passed a few amis and
had Ward Council. It was a good ward council and we made some plans to
get Atoussa and Mandy callings
Thursday: Thursday was Ascension which is a pretty big holiday in
France. We went to the Gex district meeting and talked about how we
can work with members better and then went to our ward bbq that they
had going on. It was in Versoix pretty close to the lake and it was a
beautiful day. You could see all the way across the lake to Mont Blanc
and it was incredible. We had some good sausages and chicken and it
was fun hanging out with the members. This ward is awesome. Then we
went back to the church to start and exchange with the Salve elders. I
was in Salève with Elder Trapani!! Elder Trapani is from Sicily, Italy
and he is in his first transfer and he is seriously the most stoked
missionary I've ever seen :) He was baptized a year and a half ago and
seriously is the biggest stud! We went and tried to pass a few people
and old Amis and en we finished the night at a members house in the
Ward! La famille Monbaron! The wife is a member but the husband isn't,
so we shared a spiritual thought on the temple and the blessings of a
temple marriage :) they were seriously such a cool family and it was
good to have been able to spend some time with them! After we traveled
back to Geneva to spend the night with Elder Barnes and Elder Price!
Friday: Friday morning we got calls! President Brown made is sound
like we were getting transferred because when we answered the phone he
said "well, it sounds like you two have had a good run" and then he
told us we were staying together for another transfer and we started
freaking out haha. After the initial shock wore off we finished our
studies and went to meet a new ami named Arman. He is from Albania so
we had a fun Google Translate lesson with him and we were able to give
him a Book of Mormon in Albanian. Then we went to teach Bertrand and
Alexia with Frere Chiesa. We taught them the Restoration, specifically
focusing on the importance of the Book of Mormon. The Spirit was
really strong during the rdv and both of them committed to read it.
Then we passed Ali in the hospital again to give him a blessing. He is
improving well and it was good to see some color return to his face
and eyes. That night we went to the famille Bentele's home for dinner.
They had bought sushi so we had an all-you-can-eat sushi night. Both
of us were in heaven haha. It was an awesome night and we shared a
thought on repentance and the sacrament. I'm so grateful for
repentance and that we can be completely pure.
Saturday: Saturday morning we did our studies and then we went and
played soccer with some amis and members. Frank came for the first
time and really enjoyed it. It is started to get super hot as well. We
were dying after being outside for a few minutes. After soccer we ran
home and changed and then went to David's baptism in the english ward!
It was a really cool service and it's been cool to see how much David
has changed. Then after the baptism we went to Nyon to have dinner
with Frere Fidalgo and his 2 year old daughter Rose. She is the cutest
little girl and he fed us ribs and Merguez! It was super good and we
had some good talks about life and how we can improve the missionary
work in the ward. We also had a contest to see who could eat 3 hot
peppers and go the longest without drinking any water. Elder Barnes
lost. It was a really fun night. Oh, we ate escargot as well!
Sunday: Sunday was a great mother's day. All the youth spoke during
sacrament and talked about their Moms. It was really touching :) I
love you Mommy :) Then after church we ate with the Austin couple and
then skyped our families! It was SO much fun to see them and talk to
them. It was awesome to be able to talk to everyone :)
It's been an awesome week! We are receiving our Italian companion
Elder Battezzato in a few hours! I will send everyone a quick picture!
I hope you all have a great week! I love you all!
Mark 5: 24-36. I have really enjoyed reading about the Saviors life
lately and I wanted to share these 12 verses that really touched me
this week. "Be not afraid, only believe."
Elder Wade
Mark 5: 24-36
24 And Jesus went with
him; and much people followed him, and thronged him.
25 And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve
years,
26 And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had
spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse,
27 When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind,
and touched his garment.
28 For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be
whole.
29 And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up;
and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.
30 And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue
had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my
clothes?
31 And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the
multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?
32 And he looked round about to see her that had done this
thing.
33 But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was
done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.
34 And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee
whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.
35 While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the
synagogue’s house certain which said, Thy daughter is dead: why
troublest thou the Master any further?
36 As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he
saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.
