Hermana Alicia! Such a cute lady
Hello everybody! I hope you all enjoyed conference because I sure did.
One of my favorite talks was by Donald L. Halstrom of the 70 when he
talked about us as children of God. It is such a simple, taught truth
that sometimes I even forget how amazing it is to know that we are all
children of a loving Father in Heaven. I am grateful for this
knowledge and I know that it is true. I was also deeply touched by the
Mormon Tabernacle Choir and their performance of "Come Thou Fount." I
want everyone to know that I know Jesus Christ is at the head of this
church and that he loves us individually and knows perfectly our
situations. There were multiple times throughout conference where I
thought I was the only person in the room and the speaker was only
speaking to me. I could go on and on about conference, but I'll give
you the recap of the week:
Lundi: So in the morning we said goodbye to everyone who was leaving
our zone! It was sad because honestly I loved our zone! But our new
zone is so cool. We had 14 new people come into the zone and Elder
Barnes and I are so excited! So we basically just hung out with some
other missionaries and waited all day until all the missionaries
coming into our zone arrived in Geneva! Then after that we went and
taught Atoussa and Mandy! We taught about repentance and faith and
fasting! We all decided that we would fast starting Tuesday night
through Wednesday night so that Mandy and Atoussa could receive their
answers and that Mandy's mom would let her be baptized. (Even though
she's 18 and its he choice)
Mardi: so we woke up early and took some elders to the Gare and sent
them off to Lausanne. After our companionship and the Spanish elders
did a little exchange and Elder Brady Haug and I went to the Gare and
got buss passes for all the new people in our zone! It was good to
catch up with Elder Brady Haug because we came in with each other and
I haven't really seen him since we hit the field! He's a stud though
and the Spanish elders live 2 floors above us, so they sleep over a
lot. And he's from Germany as well haha. Also we ate chez la famille
Rimli! Haha the Frere Rimli is such a Swaggy old man. We also starter
our fast for Mandy and Atoussa and they fasted with us!! Oh yeah so
while elder Brady Haug and I were at the Gare we stopped by a
boulangerie shop and I bought 2 pain au chocolats for us and I didn't
have enough money haha it was super embarrassing. So then I changed
the order to regular croissants which were less expensive and hoping I
would have enough money to at least by them. Luckily it passed and so
the man handed us the bag and smiled! So then we walked out and went
to go eat the croissants when we realized he actually put the pain au
chocolats in the bag instead of the croissants. It was nice because I
remember seeing him put the croissant in our bag and then do something
weird with our bag. Anyways, it was super nice and stuff like that
doesn't happen a lot haha. He obviously saw I was embarrassed that I
couldn't even buy 2 pain au chocolats so he gave them to us anyways :)
(poor missionary life ;) )
Mercredi: okay incredible day! So we fasted until about 5 and met with
Atoussa and Mandy and had Frere Barret with us to help us teach! We
ate some pizza and then we talked about baptism and the Holy Ghost.
The spirit was unreal strong during the RDV. It was really humbling to
watch the spirit guide our words and the words of Frere Barret. We
started talking about their lives and how if they both joined the
church they would be the first people in their family to join and that
they could "start eternity" for their family. Then Frere Barret told a
story about how his dad joined the church in his 20s and how he is so
grateful for his dad's choice. Then he showed a picture of his
beautiful wife and baby boy and said that his dad's choice in joining
the church is the reason for all of his happiness with his family.
Then we just testified that although they are young and Mandy's mom is
super against her being baptized, that there would be blessings. We
asked Mandy if she would like to start eternity for her family and be
baptized, and finally, she said, "yes." Her and Atoussa are both
scheduled to get baptized April 16!!
Jeudi: Birthday! Thank you to everyone for the birthday wishes. So
elder Barnes and I woke up and exercised and then Elder Barnes made me
some Grannie Annie's breakfast!! It's so weird to think that 2 years
ago exactly he took me out for lunch in a kaysville and now we are
still comps half way across the world. I love him. Anyways so we
helped out with a move, and then visited a recent concert in the
hospital with leg surgery named Maykel. Maykel had 2 friends with him
and they were playing FIFA. They played Fifa about as good as Jarett
Gardner (s/o for the mission call to New York this week!!)... which
means I would've whooped up on them ;);) Side explanation: in Geneva
there are 3 wards that meet in the building at different times:
French, English and Spanish. So I have just come to love one of the
hermana's in the Spanish Ward and she invited us over with some other
missionaries to celebrate my birthday!! It was super fun and we had a
good time with our district at her house. Then at the end of the
night, President Brown randomly called to see how I was doing and he
didn't even know it was my birthday...funny how the spirit works
right? He said, "well now I know why I felt like I should call you!" I
love president so much. We got to talk for a little while and it was
great.
Vendredi: another great day! So we ate at the cornetta's home! Then we
had a few tombez vous and then we went contacting at this big plaza
and saw some cool stuff. Then we did our weekly Amis/members activity
and it was crepe night! At the very end of the crepe night they did a
mini surprise birthday party for me and brought out cake and candles
haha :) Atoussa even made the cake!! I love the people here so much.
Our DMP (Ward mission leader) Fidalgo is honestly such a stud. I love
him so much and he's such a good guy and he's been so good to me since
I've been here. He is 29 and served a mission in England and has
literally the cutest baby girl on the planet named Rosie (pics coming)
Samedi: Saturday morning we woke up and had a rdv with someone we
called out of the area book named Baltisti! She was great and asked
some super good questions. We taught about the Book of Mormon and
fixed a return visit for this week! Then we had some contacting and
some planning for the transfer. Then at the end of the night we
watched the Saturday morning session of General Conference!
Dimanche: we woke up and watched Priesthood session, Saturday
afternoon and then Sunday morning live with all of you! It was awesome
because most of our zone came to Geneva to watch it with us :)
honestly I can't even begin to describe the things I learned. I
learned soooo much and the Spirit constantly bore witness of the
truthfulness. Even though I'm not writing a lot about Saturday and
Sunday when we watched conference, just know that I loved every minute
of it and was practically in heaven haha. It was also soooo cool to
see my old mission president, President Roney, get called as a 70!!
The work is going great! Please keep Mandy and Atoussa in your prayers
during her next few weeks. It sounds like Mandy is getting kicked out
of her house, and all because she wants to be baptized. They are
incredible and are true examples of "enduring to the end." Have a
great week!

Elder Barnes and I during conference! It's crazy that we went to
general conference together 2 years ago at the conference center andwe just watched it again as companions in Switzerland
